Bank Manager, Cumnock
WHY I ENJOY WORKING AT BANK OF SCOTLAND
Since starting with the Bank of Scotland I have managed six branches, moved house, got married and started a family. I started in 1995 aged nineteen in the Mortgage Applications department of the Glasgow branch and have worked in various departments over the years. I then decided I was keen to progress in the branch network and was successful in my application for a Branch Manager role. There have always been so many opportunities available to me within the Group to progress my career.
A DAY IN MY ROLE
I usually arrive at work for 8.30am each day. The first thing I always do is to check if the branch have received any new service calls from customers that I might need to help with. This is followed by carrying out daily tasks and then getting the team together for our morning team meeting before we open the doors to welcome our first customers of the day. One of the great things about the role is that you don't know what the rest of the day will bring. Getting to know customers and identifying any needs they have is a major part of my day as is observing and coaching my team. It's certainly never boring and I often wonder where the day has gone when I close the doors at night.
WHY I HAVE A ROLE THAT MATTERS
The Bank Manager role is fast paced and constantly changing. I feel lucky to have the opportunity to make a difference to our customers and would encourage anyone that thrives on a challenge to give it a go. I love having the opportunity to make a difference within our community and this year alone I have completed a climbing challenge for a local charity with my branch team, gardened at a local nursing home with my Branch Manager colleagues and arranged numerous fundraising events within branch.
